Yunona Crofoot (she/her) is a vocalist, pianist, violinist, and teaching artist from Saint Petersburg, Russia. She holds a Master of Music in Vocal Performance from Longy School of Music of Bard College (‘23 Natasha Jakoff Scholar), a Bachelor of Music in Violin Performance from Columbus State University Schwob School of Music (‘18 Summa Cum Laude) with a minor in Piano Performance, followed by an Artist Diploma in Vocal Performance (‘21). A passionate educator, Yunona has maintained an active teaching studio for the past ten years, and was delighted to join the faculty of the New School of Music in Cambridge in 2024. As a teaching artist, she has enjoyed working for the Classroom Cantatas project, music directing shows for Arlington Children’s Theater, and lecturing with The Empowered Musician, where she taught her highly-acclaimed course Piano-For-Singers.
Yunona’s students range from 4 year olds to senior citizens, with a range in ability from beginners to professional players and singers, learning in a variety of musical styles. Yunona's particular specialties include classical voice, classical piano, classical and popular violin, musical theater voice, and self-accompanied singing of jazz, pop, rock and musical theater. Yunona’s lessons are highly structured and informative and are aimed not only to curate immediate results in the lesson, but also to inform each student’s individual practice. Sessions focus on systematic technique training, mindfulness, musicianship, and artistry. Yunona believes in each student’s unique artistic potential and one of her main goals as an educator is to help her students channel that potential through their music.
