An introduction to group choruses for younger children. Students sing folk and pop songs in unison (or simple rounds): matching pitch with other singers and piano and practice their listening skills. Students will learn how to stand like singers (Posture and mental conditioning) breathe like singers and sing like musical performers while having fun. Children learn basic musicianship and theory using a combination of visual aids, games, and ear training. Goals are to learn to read a simple music score: name notes in the treble clef; identify symbols and simple note values. At least one performance is given each term.
NEW SCHOOL JUNIOR SINGERS
Tuesday, 5:30-6:30 pm; ages 9-11

For developing young singers as well as less experienced singers. Goals: students will sing a repertoire that includes popular music as well as traditional. Students will develop their sight reading skills, and learn to read a more complex music score: to identify symbols and terms,to recognize and sing a major scale pattern and learn basic rhythmic concepts and begin to learn concepts of melody, harmony, and intervals. At least one performance is given each term.
This program is designed to introduce young string players to the orchestra experience. Parents may sit in as well. Suzuki students should be inBook 3 or above and non-Suzuki students should have two-three years of study on their instrument and be able to read music.
This program is open to all students who want to learn tunes from the Klezmer/Jewish Folk tradition and perform them in agroup setting. Open to all stringed instruments. It is important that students have basic skillson their instruments. All tunes are taught by ear through a combination of repetition, singing and call and response.
About the instructor:
Originally, from Cambridge, MA, Yaeko Miranda-Elmaleh has played the violin since age three, starting at the New School of Music. A finalist in the Boston Symphony Orchestra youth competition, First prize winner in the Arlington Philharmonic competition and First Prize winner in the GBYSO Concerto competition to name a few she was a member of Project Step for 8 years and studied under Fudeko Takahashi. Mrs. Miranda-Elmaleh graduated from New England Conservatory in 2002 having studied with Michele Auclair and performing in the Jewish Music ensemble under the direction of Hankus Netsky. Mrs. Miranda Elmaleh is now the current violinist for the Klezmer Conservatory Band and has toured many concert halls throughout the United States in such venues as Avery Fischer Hall, NY and the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles. Currently a very active performer she will be making her first CD this fall.

This class focuses on developing healthy, sustainable vocal technique, with particular focus on navigating thechanging voice. Students will also learn foundational skills that will help them become more effective on stage and in auditions as well as experience an opportunity to increase vocalrange and fitness, improve breathing technique, and sharpen performance skills.About the instructor:Justin Claiborne is an experienced choral director in the greater Boston areas. He specializes in children's choral groups as well as band directing. With a background in classical training and an emphasis on contemporary studies, Claiborne has performed with artists such as Toby Keith, Chaka Khan and the Boston Symphony Orchestra. His vocal styles range from opera, jazz, gospel as well as rhythm and blues. Looking for the chance to meet other young singers in a fun and encouraging setting? This is choir for treble voices (soprano/alto) and prepares enthusiastic young singers for serious choral and vocal performance. Students sing challenging harmonies, improve their ear training, and develop strong vocal performance techniques with a repertoire ranging from classical to jazz to modern. Chamber Ensemble is designed for intermediate-advanced middle/high school string and piano students. Students should be able to perform at least 1 piece in the sonata form (concerto or sonata movement) and to sight read an excerpt of intermediate difficulty.
