PROGRAMS FOR CHILDREN

Group Piano
Fee per student:  $225 | 10 weekly classes 
Beginning piano classes are a wondeful way for young children to learn piano in a group setting.  Our classes introduce a solid foundation of keyboard skills, including note-reading, ear-training, ensemble playing, efficient practicing, and healthy and natural hand and body positioning for a lifetime of piano enjoyment.  Children learn in a small group setting, maximum of 4 students per section.  This class is designed for students with no previous experience.    

Mondays:  4:00-4:45pm; ages 4-6
Instructor: Brett Klaus  | Classes begin March 7, 2011

Saturdays: 2:00-2:45pm ages 4-6
Instructor: John Stapp  | Classes begin March 12, 2011
 


Music Discoveries
Thursdays, 3:30-4:15 pm; ages 4-6

Fee per student:  $225  |  10 weekly classes
Instructor: Justin Claiborne  | Classes begin March 10, 2011

Through singing, rythmic games, imaginative storytelling and creative movement, children in the Music Discoveries class will deepen their general musicianship while refining their basic musical skills.  This class serves young children's need to be imaginative, exploratory, and able to move freely in a musical setting.

      
 

New School Junior Singers
Children  learn the basics of breath support for singing, focusing on sound/projecting, pitch matching and ear training as they learn simple choral songs.  Written musical notation will be introduced.  

Tuesdays, 5:00-6:30 pm
Instructor: Justin Claiborne
Fee $300 15 weekly meetings


CHAMBER MUSIC AND JAZZ ENSEMBLES

Participating in a small ensembles teaches students how to interact in a group in an intimate setting, and improves listening skills and musicality. It’s also fun! The NSM staff will form ensembles based on instrumentation, ability, and age. At least two years previous instrument study required.

SUZUKI METHOD- Violin, Piano, and Cello

The New School of Music offers comprehensive Suzuki method instruction where students and parents attend weekly private lessons, with optional group classes and parent education classes. The Suzuki program provides parents and children with an opportunity to share the joy of music while learning an instrument.  Please contact us at info@cambridgemusic.org or (617) 492-8105 to discuss schedules and options and to set up a trial lesson.

Group classes can enrich a child's study of music within the Suzuki curriculum.  Private lessons are strongly encouraged. 
*3 year old students are welcome to join if approved by teacher prior to class starting.
Prerequisite - Students need to be able to play Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.  Please contact info@cambridgemusic.org for more details. 


EARLY LEVEL VIOLIN GROUP CLASS,  ages 5 - 8
Saturdays, Time TBD
Fee: $300 (15 meetings)
Instructor: Loren Pearson
In this group violin class, for begining violin students, they will develop reading skills and use both Suzuki and mixed repertoire.  Prerequisite - Students need to be able to play Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star.  Please contact info@cambridgemusic.org for more details.
